Lighthouses & Lunch Tour

Pennsylvania boasts three lighthouses along the Lake Erie shoreline, and our tour leads us to all three - the Erie Land Lighthouse, the Presque Isle Lighthouse and the North Pier Lighthouse. The first Erie Land Light entered service in 1818, sharing the distinction with the original Buffalo Lighthouse as the first on Lake Erie. In 1870, a new lighthouse was commissioned to replace the Erie Land Light. Work began in September 1872, and was completed on July 1, 1873. The 40-foot tower was built of brick, "five courses thick," to provide protection from the storms of Lake Erie. A keeper's residence was attached to the tower, and a small oil house built nearby. Our third lighthouse is also located in Presque Isle State Park. The present white tower with its distinctive black band that is mounted on the outer end of the north pier forming the entrance to Presque Isle Bay and Erie Harbor has been guiding mariners since 1857. Known as the Presque Isle North Pierhead Lighthouse or Erie Harbor Pierhead Light, the beacon has a design that is unique among surviving U.S. lighthouses. Sally's Dinor concludes our tour. Sally's is a 1957 classic Mountainview Diner and comes complete with atmosphere and a great selection of traditional diner fare. This is a must do for locals and visitors alike.
